Domains can be registered by anyone anywhere in the world on first come first served basis.

Domain Names must be minimum 3 characters in length. Example, abc.in is permitted but ab.in or a.in are not permitted and maximum length is 63 characters.

Registrations can be done from 1 to 2 years duration and renewable thereafter. Prices are same for all classifications.

.in domains can be registered by anyone subject to terms and conditions as prescribed by Registering Authority from time to time.

.ac.in and .edu.in are reserved for accredited educational institutions.

.firm.in is meant for proprietary and small Organisations.

.gen.in and .ind.in are for individuals.

For all classifications, DIT (Department of Information Technology) has reserved certain names and these are not available to public. Click here to view a list of reserved names.
